  1. LaFeeFan's stats seem to be correct, as far as I can judge. Maybe he/she'll add a source, but that's about the numbers I know of (as native German). Most clearly, Turkish immigrants make up for the major part of immigrants to Germany, as they were called here back in the 1950s and 1960s when there was a lack of labor force during the "Wirtschaftswunder", when Germany needed reconstruction, but there weren't enough adult men left from WWII to do all the work.

Now, you must see the number of "immigrants" from various perspectives. Especially the Turks. Some of them are 2nd or 3rd generation Turks, who legally are "immigrants" because they don't have German citizenship (they can opt, up to a certain age, for German or Turkish citizenship, but can't have both). So many people who live here do that on a "tolerated immigrant" status, but are matteroffactly as German as me and my right-wing neighbor.

So the stats have to be seen with a little bit of caution. I had Turkish colleagues whom I always considered to be German (of Turkish origin, of course) until I found out they don't have a German passport. So what? It didn't make a difference to me, but it made a difference for their rights to travel. Where I could go without a visa, they needed one.

  2. We actually have 6,7 millions of immigrants living in Germany, which amounts to less than 9 % of inhabitants.

1,8 millions are from different EU-countries. The rest is distributed as follows.

733400 have an entitlement to stay in Germany

1987000 have an unlimited allowance to stay in Germany

1443900 have a limited allowance to stay in Germany

274000 are granted to stay in Germany

254440 are permitted to stay in Germay

202900 are refugees tolerated to stay in Germany

Most of them are Turks (1,7 million), Italians (528000), Polish (384000) and Greek (295000).

  3. Population in Germany is 82 Million. 3,5 Million are immigrants. Most are from Turkey, Italy, Greek, Spain.

  4. Actually most sources state that the percentage of immigrants living in Germany is 12.3% of the state's population. This amounts to roughly 10.5 million immigrants. Most of them come, as LaFeeFan said, from Turkey. I assume most of her/his numbers do also represent the reality. At least the ratio should remain the same regardless of the total number.
