I am writing a term paper and I need some statistical data. I believe the percentage is high, but I really need your help.

I need to know if moms believe chicken soup relieves your child's cold symptoms and is so, do you give chicken soup to your child every time he or she has a cold.

Thank you!!!!

  1. Statistics:  Jewish Mothers .... 100%

    Italian Mothers.....89.9%,  Russian.....74.6%,  British Isles....77.2%,  Muslam....54.6%, African....39.7%,  All others....27.9%

  2. I don't know that the data is available to answer your question. If you're taking a survey, I will answer, Yes, I would give chicken soup to a child w/ a cold. (But you're likely to get a skewed result asking that here in Alt Med.)

Here's the logic, meat, especially poultry, especially if cooked with the bone in, has a lot of tryptophan. That's an amino acid that helps us relax and sleep. That's one reason we get sleepy after a big Thanksgiving meal. Sleep speeds the healing of all things, especially colds and especially for children. Onions have a similar effect, so HOMEMADE chicken soup made from boiling the leftover boney pieces of chicken and with lots of onion, is good for what ails you.
