  1. the salinity avg in open sea is 35, meaning 35 g of salt per kg of water, or simply 3.5%

dead sea located near jordan and isreal, the salinity is 31.5% which is 9 times saltier

  2. I always thought it was 3.5 %.  Have I mis-remembered?

  3. The normal sea water contain 35ppt of salt.  PPT: parts per thousand.  This means that each 1000 gram of sea water contain 35 gram of salt.  It is indeed 3.5% salt for water in open ocean.

  4. Garrison is 100 percent right.

  5. Just look at that bag of NORMAL SALINE solution that is hanging over your grandmother's bed when she is in hospital and you will see that it says 0.08 PERCENT NORMAL SALINE... "Saline" means SALT... and, since the human body has the same percentage of salt in it as the sea... because mankind EVOLVED form the sea... then it's LESS that ONE PERCENT salt.
