What is the minimal set of coins that can make ANY amount from 1c to 99c ?

4 x 1c takes care of 0-4c

1 x 5c takes care of 5-9c (with the pennies)

1 x 10c takes care of 10-19c

Then you need another nickel or dime to cover 20-24c.

We now have 0-24c.

Then adding a quarter to these takes care 25-49c

and adding a half-dollar takes care of 50-99c.

1 quarter

1 half-dollar + (1 nickel or 1 dime)
