Apparently you are the do it your self type and have no appreciation for anyone who may have helped you.  Thanking someone is a humbling gesture.  It keeps deeds and accomplishments ahead of the individual.  how about you just watch and learn.

Secondly AND MOST IMPORTANTLY it's about image.  The longer he is saying thank you, the longer you are getting pissed for having to wait.  But then you realize that he's saying thank you because people are STILL CLAPPING.  Wow, all of these people must really like this guy.  And that's what make people pay more attention.
