I often wonder that about many parasites, insects and other annoying, seemingly pointless creatures.

But the basic theory would have to be population/supply control... why does bacteria exist? Viruses? Disease? (In the tapeworms case maybe to regulate food supply by causing us to eat more? Who knows...)

It's an intricate web of nature and each strand has it's part... some completely unknown even to us.

Either that, or someone's having a chuckle at our expense!

Stupid tapeworms...
