What is the phone number to make a payphone ring?

i know theres a phone number because i would see many people doing it but i dont know the number?

Rich is correct, it is a well known fact here in the US, there are some that will ring, like the one in my building lobby that outsiders can't get in to use.

There's actually a number on the pay phone itself, that if you call it, yes, it will ring. There's no universal or magic number, you have to get the number on whatever pay phone you want to call, its like in a little box on one of the top corners.

In  the US, more and more pay phones are having their ringers disabled, or incoming calls restricted. (Due to crime-drug traffic, etc.) usually calling the number will NOT ring the phone.

Look on the front of the phone.  Somewhere there is a 10 digit number.  This will make the phone ring if you call it unless it has been enabled, 'outgoing calls only'.
