When you transform time-domain signals into the frequency-domain using a Fourier, LaPlace, Z, etc., transform, manipulating complex time-domain equations becomes a matter of simple algebra in the frequency domain.  Time-domain integro-differential equations become additions and subtractions and algebraic expressions in the frequency domain.

    A multiplication of 2 transformed signals in the frequency domain is called a convolution in the time-domain.

    The most common physical manifestation of multiplication in the frequency-domain is called modulation.  When one time-domain signal 'modulates' another time-domain carrier signal, the 2 signals are convolved in the time-domain (and are multiplied in the frequency-domain).
