What is the plot/summary for Vampire Academy?

What is the Vampire Academy series about? all of my friends who have read it said it's really good, but before i go out and buy it, i'd like more opinions and what it's about. So if you could please let me know that would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

Basically it's about Rose who is a Dhampire. She is a guardian of (can't remember her name because I read it a while ago, sorry :P) Anyway, Dhampire's protect Moroi's who are royalty in the vampire world. Dhampire's are kind of just their protectors. Strigoi however are the evil vampires, and they always attack the Moroi. Hence why they have Dhampire to protect them. Basically it's about Rose's connection with her Moroi that she's protecting (once again sorry, can't remember her name) and everything that goes on at St.Vladimirs. Including rose falling for her Guardian teacher Dimitri... It's quite a good read :)

The next book in the series is Frostbite, which I still have to read.

And the third book comes out in November.
