please only the french and/or the culinarily capable should answer this....i don't care if you went to c.i.a. or johnson and wales -- that doesn't mean you can spell...i've known way too many chefs with culinary training who can't spell/pronounce their way out of a wet paper bag (ever seen emeril legasse?)

  1. It's written haricots verts, but pronounced exactly the same.

Watch out if you're saying les haricots verts or des haricots verts you can NOT pronounce the s liason in between s_haricots.. I hope this is clear, if you can speak french you probably clearly get me, otherwise you must be confused, lol.

What i mean is you can't say somethine sounding like lez_harico...do you get me? Don't pronounce the s as you would if the next word started with a vowel sound, because it's a h (consonent) (there's two ways of pronouncing h's in french....but that's a lesson for another day, and i don't think i'd be able to write it, i'd have to be face to face)

Anywayyyyyy......in conclusion (!) it's just pronounced the same and written haricots verts.

  2. 1 haricot vert=ah-ree-koh vayhr

les haricots verts= layh ah-ree-koh vayhr.

As the first answer said, you don't pronunce the link between the "s" of "les" and the "a" of "haricots verts", but you don't pronunce the "h" either!
