What is the point & history of nailpolish?

Honestly, why do I love it so much? lol, why do women wear it? I love getting pedicures & manicures. But what is the history of nailpolish? Thanks for the help.

We wear it because it looks good, and that enhances our confidence. Apparently, men are starting to wear nail polish too. I guess we all like to be pampered sometimes. :)
