What is the point of Brand name clothing?

I agree when I was high school in the early 90's I knew this one guy who always wore nothing but Tommy Hilfiger and just like you said the dude was basically a human billboard.

Hence, the point of making brand name clothing a status symbol.  Its free advertising later.

I guess if your wearing a name-brand, it'll make you stylish. But I don't like it when the brand name is just right on the front.
