  1. As a guide to what is a good restaurant.

  2. Tells you how `good` a restaurant is.

It gets the word Michelin out as well.

  3. It is a world standard set for restaurants that offer outstanding quality. It's a bit like McDonalds - you know where ever you go in the world it will always taste the same and can rely on it. The same with a Michelin star restaurant - you know where ever you are in the world you can rely on it being the best quality and standard.

  4. to give you an idea of what you are going to put into your stomach!

  5. The more stars a restaurant has, the more likely you are to finish up looking like the Michelin logo.

  6. to tell you where its good to eat out?

  7. Aren't they a pop group.

  8. What is the point of Oscars?

What is the point of the Victoria Cross?

What is the point of the FA Cup?

  9. Kudos. Esteem.

  10. To make you pay more for less.

  11. They are there to give you a guide as to the quality of the venue. The best is 3 stars.

The Michelin guide lists many places but most do not even have 1 star. The restraunts with 1+ stars are the best of the best. The UK has only 3, 3 star venues.

If a venue does not have a star it can still be very good. The uk guide lists 1800 excellent restaurants only 122 of which have 1 or more stars.

So you can have a good meal in a restaurant without stars.

  12. Something for chefs to strive for, and the affluent gourmet to take note of.
