  1. To give the kids a sense of accomplishment. To set them on their way to the next step of education..1st grade. Every grade there will be some kind of party to celebrate the finishing of that grade..to transition to the next. I think it's very important..it's show the ending of a year..beginning of the next.

And for the parent to show their kid that you are PROUD of them.

  2. To the person above:  Many aren't developmentally appropriate, but this is something that can be if done properly.

If you're considering doing one, keep it simple.  Practice a few songs they already know to sing to the parents.  Give them certificates and recognize each one equally.  Thank the parents.  Move into a celebration cake with ice cream followed by play time.

There are several reasons why this can be good:

--Gives the children a chance to set up and plan an event.

--Gives the children something to look forward to.

--Gives you a chance to meet with the parents one last time and thank them.

--Gives the family a fun thing to do together.

I'm sure there are many other reasons.

  3. to feel proud of them selfs

  4. Where are you based?

In some countries like America Kindergarten is the term for the first year of school.

In other countries like Australia (where I live) the term is for what would be called pre school in America and is not part of the actual school system.

In this case the point is to give the children a sense of achievement and to say goodbye and good luck for their future school careers.

It's quite a recent thing though. I went to kindergarten but I did not actually graduate - we didn't have any type of graduation or anything.

For somewhere like America the idea is probably the same but it is only going to the next class. If however that involves being a bigger part of the school or a change in the facilities that the child is to use it's probably a good idea.

  5. I personally don't think it is that necessary.  It just depends on the school.  Some make a huge deal over it, the kid gets all dressed up and parade infront of the families.  It doesn't make any difference with their education.  My daughter just graduated 8th grade, and I was having a difficult time with that, because my school district did not have a graduation ceremony for 8th grade, but this town it is a huge deal.  We bought the fancy dress, attended, and had a small family gathering at home.  I really don't think it made such a huge difference with her, she acted as if none of it happened, it would have been fine with her.

So it's just a school and community deal, I think.

  6. The purpose of this is to celebrate a milestone in a child's life. This is the start of the child's school career. Another milestone would be from elementary to middle school, middle school to high school and then, of course, from high school to college.

  7. Its a huge deal right now.. because my daughter is graduating Kindergarten in 3 weeks.

Its a point in a little ones life where they learn that starting first grade.. isn't about play centers and reading circle time and "rest time"

Since pre-k and kindergarten are manly curriculum based around nap time and creativity time.. the kids are never sitting for 7 hours straight. they are always moving around.

The teachers at my daughter's school are taking their time explaining to the kids that things are different now since they are getting older. They will have to pay lots more attention and sit still for longer periods of time.

So far all the kids are really proud of themselves.. for doing all their work for the year. We are all really proud of them for learning so much through this year, they are well prepared for 1st grade.

  8. It's mostly for the parents - they love that stuff.  We have a preschool graduation here where I work.  the kids are very excited and the parents are so proud.  It's mostly a picnic and playtime but we stop for 15 minutes and sing a couple of songs and present their 'diplomas'.  Every parent has a camera and I'm sure it goes right into their baby book.

  9. omg come on. its the first year of school finished. thats a big accomplishment. its not like they needed to work hard but they will feel good.

  10. Well, I think it is so the little kids will feel proud of themselves. And if they don't, maybe they will think they didn't pass kindergarten.

  11. To put on a show for the parents, stress children out... it is not developmentally appropriate for this age!
