if you sign up for a plan( e.g. AT&T) that already gives you unlimited internet browsing/emailing, what is the point of having a wifi-capable cell phone? is it just so that your web surfing is faster? or is there some other added bonus?

  1. Some service providers also offer wi-fi calling, not just data, so it doesn't use any minutes off your plan. T-mobile calls it "hotspot" calling, for example.

  2. the only differnce is in preference, with wi-fi you can connect to your home computer and download onto your phone.

  3. its faster then a data plan.

If you are in a place with no cell coverage, you still have the internet

you dont have to sell your life for a contract

you can install programs that allow you to control your pc/server over wifi

att for example has a cap of 5gb on their unlimited data plan, wifi has no cap

and then you have voip, which doesnt cost towards your phone minutes or data.

I would never buy a phone that didnt have wifi

  4. Certain Wi-Fi networks will actually have faster connectivity then through the cell towers, and for people who don't have unlimited data, it'll help them cut down on their phone bill.
