  1. upconverted movies are still only 480p (720/480) resolution that is stretched and filled with false pixels to 1920/1080. blu-ray is already 1920/1080p and thus requires no stretchung and filling. think of the wallpaper on your desktop. if you take a low resolution picture and stretch it to fill the screen, then photoshop what colors should be where, it will never look as good and the higher definition image. a good movie to test this is 300. ask a local retailer to play both versions on a blu-ray player and you will understand immediately. almost all of the pixelation goes away. also normal dvds have compressed audio while blu-rays have lossless higher quality modes (dolby hd).
