What is the point of censoring words in mags, sites like this or just in general?

words like f**k, c**t and tw*t. what's the point when the reader says the word in their head when they read it anyway. only did it to this so as to be allowed to be shown

It's a strange US custom, bought about by the silly fundies and conservatives. Same as not allowing things sexual, then sexualising everything. No wonder the country's in trouble.

Because children might be reading, and those words are offensive to some people and using vulgarity shows to the world that the writer has a limited vocabulary.

because it shows where theres swearing. with saving their ***. by censoring letters with a *.

it can mean other words. like.. c a r t..not c**t...people just need to use common sense. and the mag is saved but we get the right message.

and children cannot read c**t...

We have become an over sensitive bunch. You don't want to hurt anyones feelings.Do you think by not calling a black person a black person that he doesn't know he's black? Political correctness has gone way too far. I have had to get 5 different yahoo id's because I keep getting my account suspended for the simple reason of being 100% honest.

well for the readers sake.... some ppl feel offended when they see words like that.... its really there to put in place a decent exposure to everyone.. there are a lot of young children out there.....

For children who actually don't know what the word is yet.

Because they can not force you to improve your vocabulary and express yourself in a more intelligent manor.  While we might know your intent, stopping your usage of the actual word might encourage you to find a different one.  Or you could just circumvent the system and use symbols.  It is a free country, thank God.

Children read it and if they are young they do not know what the word is, yet older readers get a sense of it.

i guess just to censor it from younger children. I find it really sad when i hear 8 year olds swearing their little heads off
