What is the point of clear nail polish?

why would you want to wear clear nail polish? isn't the whole point of nail polish to make your nails.........colorful?

They do not have color, yet they still glisten.

(Example: Why do people wear lip gloss? Would you put something on your lips that isn't colored?)

sometimes if you don't want to wear a colour because it wont go with your outfit or you just dont feel like it you will wear clear to make your nails shiny, pretty and natural yet subtle enough to wear with any outfit.

You can put it as an undercoat to regular nail polish, which helps the color come off better when you decide to take it off. You can also use it as the top coat, which makes the color look smooth and shiny. And if you just want to make your nails look a little on the nicer side, but still neutral, you can just put a coat of clear on. It gives them a smooth, shiny look.

Well if you want a french manicure its to give it shine...Alot of times the clear nail polish has things that actual keeps the nail polish on longer so you put it over the color
