  1. In part you are right.  But its not the fault of the companies, its the fault of our culture.  We need instant gratification.  We need the problem gone right now, doesnt matter how.  And thats what the pills do.  It takes hard work and lots of time to get to the root of the problem, and no one wants to go through all that, or they dont have time or whatever their excuse.

But, they do have their good side.  Ativan was a life save for me as an anti enemic during cancer treatment.  And it is also used with patients who are having seizures and things like that.  It can be used in medical proceedures, for example I use ativan when I have a bone marrow biopsy.  They wont put you to sleep because it only takes like 10 mins, but it is a crappy proceedure and I hate needles, the ativan keeps me calm.

Xanax is best used as a very temp solution to get you calm enough to look at the problem.  I do not think it should be used as the answer at all.  But, again, instant gratification. It does work short term, very well in fact.  When this works, why bother take the time and effort to get to the bottom of the real problem?

  2. This Benzodiacepins drugs like xanax are use full to treat anxiety attacks for short periods of time

  3. An anxiolytic is a drug prescribed for the treatment of symptoms of anxiety. Some anxiolytics have been shown to be useful in the treatment of anxiety disorders as have antidepressants such as the class of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs).

Also, in my opinion as a nurse, an anxiolytic sometimes helps a client make it through the day.  Temporary, sure, but suffering is suffering whether it is an hour or an indefinite amount of time.........Money is the last thing on your mind when you actually see what anxiety can do to a person.

  4. Does a wheelchair fix the cause of MS? Does ibuprofen fix the cause of  arthritis? Does insulin fix the root problem of diabetes? No. But it deals with the problem because there's no way to fix the cause - in diabetes there's no beta cells. In anxiety disorders, there's something wrong upstairs that's beyond the ability to medicine to address or fix. People need to get on with their lives and suffer as little as possible.

And all the benzos have been generic for ten years or more. They cost about $10 a bottle. And they have one of the best side effect profiles.
