Just curious what the point of having a sliding shaft on the throttle/shift cables is. I just finished rebuilding my carbs and was going through the link/sync and couldn't figure out if i needed to pull the shaft all the way out of the tube or push it back in or just leave it alone before making attachments to the engine.

Does it matter?

  1. Your question isn't too clear, but if I read it right you are trying to attach the throttle cable to the carb.

The main point of having the sliding shaft is to provide an attachment point and at the same time provide a seal for the cable lubes.  Inside the tube is a stainless wire attached to the shafts.

Put your throttle in the off or slow position, then hook the shaft to the carb.  Open the throttle all the way and make sure that you aren't over stressing the carb linkage while insuring the carbs are opened all the way.
