What is the point of income tax, car taxes and house taxes?

It seems that the only point of these taxes is to take away peoples money, im 13 by the way and im wondering why people have to pay extra money for stuff they already own.

The US government is a democracy.  Part of the democracy is that we are all one, and help each other.  One way of helping is to 'pitch in' through taxes.  The taxes is one way to help the US to afford its democracy.  Taxes help pay for education, energy and food assistance, economic growth, and other areas that require financial help.

  3. Let us put it this way. Do your parents drive a car? Who repairs the roads? Their taxes? You attend school ? Who pays the teachers, janitors, traffic monitors, cafeteria workers? Their house taxes? Who pays for the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and National Guard? Taxes ? So now as a 13 year old, did you learn something that you didn't know before ? Computer Charges and Taxes ?

  4. The point of all taxes is to raise money to fund the government for such services as police, schools, roads and other government functions.

    Where do you think the money to pay for defense, roads & highways, police, fire protection, Social Security, Medicare, schools, etc. comes from?  As I'll bet your folks have said more than once, "It dang sure doesn't grow on trees, you know!"

  6. Well, your property taxes pay for schools and mosquito spraying and libraries and such.

    Income tax is paid to the federal government to pay for government, to avoid chaos, help those in need (elderly & disabled).

    We don't pay car taxes, except sales tax when we buy a car, and then we sell a car and when we get license plates in Illinois.
