What is the point of this Jarrod Washburn Trade for the Yankees?

First of all we have to take on that contract of 11+ million next year and he probably going to ask for compensation for waiving no trade clause.

Secondly, have given up on Phil Hughes already? he struggled this year but he almost threw a no-hitter vs. the slugging rangers last year but got injured

thirdly, Sidney Ponson is 2-0 as a Yankees starter and Rasner is improving.

fourthly, what about Carl Pavono (remember him) he should be pitching his only game of the season before getting another season-ending injury.

I understand this this guy has playoff experience but what are we going to do with Sidney Ponson, Darrel Rasner, Phil Hughes, Carl Pavono (if he does not get injured), Ian Kennedy (who has just started to get better in AAA) ?
