Doesn't it seem more like a case of one-upmanship than anything else these days?

  1. It's a good way to reach those you have lost contact with over the years also. I love reading the bridal sections and see where old friends or their children are celebrating anniversaries, weddings, engagements, etc.

  2. Where I come from, they're very popular, and one of the main reasons many people read the Sunday paper. It's great to see those you went to school with or the dresses or whatever. It's a free service offered by our newspaper, and everyone I know puts in their announcement with photo for both their engagement and their wedding. After we put ours in the paper, I couldn't believe the people who mentioned it, and those who mailed me a copy of the announcement-my hairdresser, manicurist, acquaintances, etc. I think it's nice, but like anything else, some people take it way too far.

  3. LOL maybe. It's way too expensive now too that's why we didn't do it

  4. In some cases, yes, it does seem like "one-upmanship" but it doesn't have to be like that. Personally, I think the wedding announcements in the paper are nice and fun to look at. They're also good to inform people about the marriage who were not sent an invitation but who know the couple or their families.
