What is the point to preserve humanity?

It is a philosophical question. In other words, I hear people saying we exist to continue humanity. So, why should we continue humanity? I don't really want a religious answer, because I know what the answer is.

our main purpose is to make babies humanity is just a byproduct of us trying to make sure our kids will have good lives.  everything about humanity, from social to political aspects are just things for the greater good that will increase our chances for survival as individuals and also as a race.
