I'm not sure, but the United States is only 5% of the world's population and we contribute about 20% of the worlds trash and pollution.  Its our reliance on automobiles and factories.  We produce a lot of greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change.  The average American produces about 5 lbs of trash a day.  About 50-75% of that trash is recyclable, but only 20% of it actually gets recycled.

China is 2nd to the US... but only because of their population size.  They actually produce less trash per person than an American, but they have a lot more people.
