What is the possible mechanism for the reaction of benzyl alochol with acetic acid to form benzyl acetate?

  1. This is a Fischer esterification (if acid catalyzed) - the reaction of an acid and an alcohol to form an ester.  The mechanism is given in the link below.

    This ester would probably be easier to make with acetic anhydride rather than acetic acid...
