What is the power limitation (milliwatts) to hand held lasers in australia?

You need a permit from the police to import any hand held laser pointer over 1 milliwatt.

You can get a stronger one off Ebay, but it has to get to you somehow, and customs are on the lookout for them, as Ebay and similar were the sources of most of the strong ones used to blind aircraft pilots.

For ordinary use the weak little keychain type are plenty strong enough. These are ok for presentations, too and available just about everywhere.

There's a fairly hefty fine if customs catch you inporting a strong one.
