  1. Microsoft Power Point is primarily designed as a software for creating presentations / slide shows.  For the most part these are used for educational / training purposes or sales presentations.

"Slides" or individual pages can contain any combination of text, graphics, and other digital media (including video and sound).  The presentations can then be either printed out as handouts, or shown on a computer or projector with a narrator explaining the contents of each slide.

The use of visual aids created on PowerPoint has made it easier for presenters who repeat the same lectures or presentations, because they don't have to keep recreating the same diagrams or notes on a chalkboard / whiteboard.

  2. One of the programs packaged with most versions of Microsoft Office (though it can be purchased separately), PowerPoint was designed for giving presentations.  You can easily place text, pictures, graphics in combination with sound if you want, so it's a great tool for enhancing any presentation, including sales, a school or work assignment/presentation, education/training, and so on. PowerPoint can also be used to create a flyer, handouts, and self-running slide shows.  Notice that PowerPoint is one word (it's Microsoft's brand name for the program).
