What is the practical, career application of a sociology degree?

My daughter is considering a sociology degree. She is currently a high school Junior. We both understand what a sociologist does in general but are not sure what sort of job opportunities exist for a sociologist. That is to say that we don't know what sort of company or organization would hire a sociologist, and for what purpose. A typical daily activity summary and of course salary ranges, etc are all info that we are curious about. Thanks for your help!

Don't listen to Kyle.  She would probably have more luck finding a job in the public sector than in the private sector.
