I am informed that most of the professed jews are not actually jewish in the religious sense, which is the only sense Americans recognize; i.e. in the U.S. it is considered a matter of religious affiliation. Aren't most of the members of the "Jewish State" actually atheists? What are the percentages?

  1. Maybe one out of ten of the "israelis" are actually jewish in the normal sense of the term; that's why it's called a counterfeit nation. Most are just Russian atheists.

  2. I know what claim you're trying to make, but it only makes you even less legitimate.

The Jewish people are the people of the kingdom of Judah, people that practiced a religion that is now called "Judaism". Someone needs to be a descent of them in order to be considered Jewish. Hence, you don't have to practice Judaism in order to be jewish.

If an Irish-Catholic man converts his religion, it doesn't make him any less Irish. Of course you'd like to think that's the case.

The state of Israel is not a religious state, It's a Jewish nation-state (with minorities).

  3. You're asking an observancy question.  Out of the jewish people in israel it is upwards of 80 percent observancy on the holidays that are prescribed in scripture to follow.

Eveyrone has the day off for these holidays the gov't gave it to them and schools and many businesses are closed.  80 percent eat special foods on pesach (passover) as well, although that isn't required of them.

It can only be understood by jewish people living in the land what is required.  In short, it is enough to live on the land and create the gov't to support their religion.

Also, regarding Jews for Jesus aka Messianic Judaism.  Those are apostates and not jewish people.  while they do make observancy of rituals and holidays, that is not what makes a person jewish. They are Christians.

To be jewish, one must be born of a jewish mother or willfully converted to the religion and to not become apostate to any other religion (willfully convert out.)

While there is no doubt athiest or agnostic in jewish society, just like any other society, they are still very much jewish in every sense of the term.  They contribute to the society in their own individual way.

Israel is very much a collective society.  Like a bee hive with worker bee doing their part.  Each one contributes to the whole.

Jewish people devote lifetime to study over millenium.  The complexity of this religion can never be understood on YA.

I think religious Americans know that already.

  4. There are no Jews in the Palestinian terrotory, but there are Jews right next to it in Israel.

Many are indeed not practicing Judaism, but there is a growing number of Jews in Israel who are returning to Judaism.

    PEACE:)

  5. Having lived in Israel for several years, I can tell you that there are ALOT of religious jews (25% of of all newborns in Israel are born to ultra-orthodox parents). But these people mostly live on the sidelines, they don't work, they don't really contribute to the country, and they have little real power. And this is the reason Israel always beats the arabs, because the people in charge are secular, they actually use their brains, instead of depending on a magic man in the sky.

  6. Most israelis are not actually jewish in terms of normal usage of the term.

  7. It would depend on your definition.

The majority of the Jewish population of Palestine before 1948 was, in general, religious. However the vast majority of Israelies today (roughly between 80 to 90 percent) are athiest, agnostics, or only nominal Jews. It must be noted that is counting the Jews already living in Palestine before 1948. Out of the post-1948 immigrants, only about 6 to 9 percent are practicing Jews, and these are usualy hard-core Orthodox Jews- the equivelent of Christian or Muslim fundamentalists. While there are religious Jews who are moderate in practice, the vast majority of these do not live in Palestine but in neighboring Arab states such as Syria and Yemen. Despite the fact that the vast majority of Israelis are athiests and agnostics, a facade of religion is neccesary to mantain the support of Western Christians (Eastern Christians usualy tend to support Palestinians).

In addition, there is some conflict between the pre-1948 Jews and the post-1948 Jews. In addition to the ethnic issue (most pre-1948 Jews believe that after 2,000 years of living in Europe, the immigrants are more European than Semitic), there is a religious issue as well. Many local Jews and Arab Jews claim that post-1948 immigrants have made a travesty out of Judaism by using it as a claim to Palestine and a as tool to gain Western support.

Lastly, I believe I should point out that there are other sects of Judaism that truly do practice religion, but are usualy so small in number that they are usualy ignored- namely, the Messianic Jews and Yehyeheen (the descendents of the followers of John the Baptist).

  8. I gather you are referring to the entirety of occupied Palestine,in other words what the Un dubbed "Israel". The answer is about 80% of the alleged jews are actually atheists or agnostics, meaning they aren't even really jewish. They considered as such by the occupation authorities because they are descended from persons who practiced Judaism .
