  1. 70

  2. 70 degrees in my opinion

  3. There is no ideal temperature.  Of course different people, plants, and animals have different preferences, but the main reason there is no ideal is because climate change does occur naturally.

The trouble is with the rate of change that we're seeing now, and the fact that the current warming is not natural but man-made.

  4. Averages don't work.   70 seems to be a popular answer on here.   It was -30 when I was working in NH.   It would have to be 170 someplace else to make the average 70.

  5. No one really knows.  We know from past history that the planet was much hotter in the past, and that life is more prosperous during the warming periods, but there's really no "preferred" temperature.

Unfortunately I think we're going back into a cooling period.  I was hoping this warming period would've lasted longer.

The beauty of this planet is that it regulates itself.  There are animals and plants that like all sorts of variations in climate and temperatures and they move or proliferate in the regions that they prefer.   Just nature at its best.  We can't stop it and we can't control it.  Just live with it and enjoy.

  6. 70 degrees..not just for human comfort, but also for the the animals and vegetation. The mean temp. is about 54 degrees . If the temp. should fall below that and stay there it would it would devastating....because cold is more damaging than than heat. In the past year temps. have dropped significantly. How many of you have heard lately "This is the coldest winter I can remember"? Plants can't stand the cold. Did we not lose crops in the US this past year because of cold? Ga. peaches.. my favorite. How about Fla. oranges? And they call this Global Warming? Some one is telling lies. I'm so sorry, but a guess I got off the question. Sorry. Point to ponder, though.

  7. I prefer the one that minimizes changes to sea-level and extreme weather events. I also prefer the one which has sustained our civilization fairly well for the past millennium.  I'd really hate to start moving cities and agricultural areas because of significant temperature changes.

  8. there isn't one.

there are temperatures at which various specific plants and animals thrive.

and they're not the same for each species.

the world gets hotter and colder over time.

    some species proliferate, others decline.

at the moment, we've added considerable CO2 to the atmosphere.

specifically, there's been a 40% increase since we started burning coal and oil.

that has driven the temperature up.

    the world doesn't care.

it makes considerable difference for some of the creatures that inhabit the world though.

  9. It is the teperature at which it is right now, and where it was 100 years ago and where it will be 100 years from now. We cannot control our environment. The Earth heats up, it cools down. One large volcano can change our weather for 5 years, just as the solar flares and sun activity chage our weather. The earth has gone through cycles with out mans help and will continue to do so. The same happens on every planet in our solar system. It is nothing but arrogance to think that humans are so powerful as to have such a effect on our world. God made the design, and he controls what happens

  10. There is no preferred average temperature for our planet.

  11. 70 degrees Farenheit

  12. liberals are never happy no matter what the temperature is

  13. There would be no "preferred" temperature for the world.  It would depend on the country and the local population involved.

As for me 70 is just right, when I'm in the house and can open my windows and turn on the fans.

But when I'm at the lake, camping or on my boat, I prefer 80+, and a lot of sun.

See, it is a relative proposition, and there is no one good answer.

Oh, when i'm in bed making love, I do prefer a bit cooler, like 66-68.  That's just right!

  14. What it was before we messed things up.  It's pretty clear from this graph:

    http://www.globalwarmingart.com/wiki/Ima...

"We humans have built a remarkable socioeconomic system during perhaps the only time when it could be built, when climate was sufficiently stable to allow us to develop the agricultural infrastructure required to maintain an advanced society.  If the Earth came with an operating manual, the chapter on climate might begin with a caveat that the system has been adjusted at the factory for optimum comfort, so don't touch the dials."

EDIT - Kudos to bob326 for a relevant answer that doesn't grind an axe.  He deserves the 10 points.

  15. High 85

    Low 55

  16. i really love a good 80 degrees    F.   i do live in texas tho, lol

  17. Wow, a lot of people would like an average global temperature of 70 degrees F.

Well, the average global temperature is currently around 58 degrees F, and has been within about 1 degree of that for several millennia. To get to an average temperature of 70 degrees F would require around a 12 degree rise, or around a 7 degree C rise, which is well above the estimates of the IPCC for a doubling of CO2, and would surely cause massive global catastrophe--large scale extinctions, wars, famines, huge sea level rises, etc. A world that has not been seen for tens of millions of years.

  18. 70 degrees.
