Not an answer, but did you see the report on AOL about granite counter tops giving off the same gas that comes out of the ground into basements that is believed to cause cancer?  Google it.

I really don't have the answer that you need either but granite has been shown to emit radon gas which can be quite harmful. I don't think I'd use it based on the levels of radioactivity found. I read this last week on the Yahoo news.
