Most of the oil we use in our cars used to be oil from marine zooplankton and phytoplankton that died and sunk to the bottom of the ocean millions of years ago but growing algae or zooplankton commercially so as to make fuel is a good idea although the burning of these fuels will still emit carbon.  Good idea though.  I’m sure someone in the world would be researching this topic.


  2. It depends on what process is used and quantity is needed. The lowest reasobable cost~$80/ton. $17 a barrel or 6 million BTUs is a figure based on growing, harvesting and processing biomass in large quantities. It was not a very good idea when oil was less than $20 or so but it seems oil will never get that cheap any time in the future so now its a good idea,
