  1. Depends on new or used. Expect to lay out $500,000 for a cheap used chopper, about $3 mil for a good new one. They burn jet fuel , which is a type of kerosene. A few burn AV-gas which is a high-octane gasoline.

  2. Depends on what you mean by "commercial helicopter"..  There are countless types of activities that would qualify as commercial operations.

Helicopters used for pipeline inspection, traffic watch, or ranching may cost $50,000 to $300,000 and use avgas, which is basically a more refined version of car gas.

All of the following helicopters use jet fuel:

Helicopters used by police departments and news crews are generally in the $3 million range.

Helicopters used by hospitals are normally in the $5 million to $6 million range.

Luxury helicopters used mainly for executive transport are around $13 million.

Heavy industrial lift helicopters, firefighting helicopters, and heavy transport helicopters (the huge kinds with two main rotors) can run $35 million or more.
