diamonds as an investment. what price is being asked on "perfect" diamonds?

There is no such thing as a perfect diamond, although a colorless  D "flawless" diamond would be near perfect.  These vary tremendously in price depending  on the size and cut, so no one can quote you one price.

I don't think diamonds are a good investment.  Unless you are a diamond merchant, you have to buy retail and sell back at less than wholesale.  The resale value is usually half the purchase price.  Your diamond has to double in value before you can sell it back for the purchase price.  See the links.
