Im getting married in a year and I was looking up prices for a DJ for a Friday night. Some seemed to be around $1000. Is that reasonable?

  1. $1150 for ours for a Saturday in central PA.  However, the DJ is traveling 2 hours from the Philadelphia area and is the company owner... the company's other DJ's are less.

  2. I live in memphis, my bestfriend recently had a wedding an her dj was 250.00 and he works for a local radio station here.

  3. Depends where you live and what he is offering. I live in NJ and we got quotes from $250 (college student's side gig) to $1500 with lighting and stuff. Our DJ is charging $795 for 5 hours. The better questions to ask are, A) do you like the DJ? B) does he have good references? and C) what can you afford to pay? Based on those parameters you should be able to find a DJ that suits your needs. $1000 is about avergae for 6 hours where I live; that would be a good DJ with plenty of experience. If you know anyone who has used a DJ in the past or you attended a function with a DJ you liked you could always check them out.

    Good luck!

  4. WOW! that seems pricey.  You can also try www.craigslist.com under services. Someone on yahoo mentioned about going on there to find a photographer for my sons wedding. I went on there hoping to find a deal, well... i sure did, got a photographer for FREE! She was trying to build her portfolio to get into another company and needed pictures of her work, so she was on time didn't have to pay for anything and got all the pictures and had them put on a disc. She was pleased with the turn out only because it was a military wedding and she thought it would be wonderful in her portfolio. She also mentioned in the condition that she can use the pics. for her portfolio. We said no prob. You may find a Dj on that website. be sure to ask for references.

    Congrats!!!

  5. Geez! Where do you live? If you live in a big city I guess that's reasonable. My Dj is charging $350. Normally in my area it's around $500 though.

  6. Mine is 1700 in Massachusetts.

  7. We were looking at an all-inclusive wedding venue place (not really our style) and they told us that our package included 4 hours of DJ service that was a $450 value (for a Saturday night) so that should give you some idea of the cost.

$1000 seems like a lot.  I wouldn't pay more than $700 for a REALLY good DJ for 6 hours.

  8. It really depends on the area.  In Massachusetts, the DJs range from about $1000-$1500 for a decent one.  Just be careful about trying to find a cheap DJ, the DJ and photographer are two things you really don't want to skimp on.  An annoying DJ can ruin a wedding, I've seen it happen.  Make sure to get recommendations.  I think the best way to find a good DJ is to ask around.  We booked ours because we saw him in action at another wedding.
