  2. Yes, its D - the palisade mesophyll cells. In fact they are placed longitudinally in the cell. This postion helps to enhance light absorption.

    Cells in the upper and lower epidermis do not have chloroplasts and therefore do not photosynthesise.

    Spongy mesophyll cells are more concerned with transpiration and gaseous exchange.
