  1. First of all, are you attending class regularly? A lot of what profs lecture on in class is what ends up on the tests- NOT just the book readings. Are you taking good notes? This is CRUCIAL. Take notes while in class, and when you get home, re-organize/re-word them so that they make sense to you. Also, I don't recommend cramming the night before a test. I find that if you take a half-hour to an hour every night for each class and read through all your notes, you end up retaining it a lot longer and you won't have to cram the night before the test- you already know it! Good luck!

  2. I am always amazed that students are not taught how to study! Don't worry, though, you can can definitely learn how to study! Check out this page:

While you're at it, check out the page about test anxiety. If you can conquer both of those things, you will be set!

  3. After you come from exam, check whether you have answered properly for all questions. sometimes you might have understood your questions wrong.

  4. its probelly the way the questions are worded, there probelly trickier than they first sound and you think you known them but if you went back and read them you would see that there worded in a weird way. the correct way to study is to read the chapter before you go to class. then while the teacher is talking about the chapter the next day even if you just skimmed it it would all come togeather and you have to review the material every day, probelly just like 20 mins a day review it if you do it for too long youll start to confuse yourself.

  5. It sounds as though you might need practise in taking exams - that may sound strange, but there is more to writing an exam than simply knowing the correct answers. If you can get copies of old exams (most teachers have them and will allow students to use them) you can go over the exams and learn how to read the questions. Don't laugh! Students lose more marks on exams by mis-reading the question and giving a correct answer - but not the answer to the question. So step one is learning to read the exam question carefully and make sure you know exactly what you are being asked. Another place where you can lose marks is on essay or paragraph writing. Again, you can work on this in advance, and make sure you know how to include all the information that is requested. Make sure you give a clear topic in your opening sentence. Make sure you support your statements. Make sure you round it all up in a concluding statement. And then, go back and double check for spelling and grammar. You can lose points through incorrect spelling and grammar, so don't give away marks unnecessarily.

The third thing to consider is exam anxiety - sometimes people get so uptight about an exam that they literally freeze when it comes to actually writing the test. Talk to your teacher about your hopes for better marks and ask for assistance in learning how to write exams. If you do have exam anxiety, knowing how to deal with exams will help ease that as well, and the net result should be better overall marks for the same amount of studyding.

    good luck!
