  1. Do you have a sample picture?  The problem probably doesn't lie in the camera, so that's the good news.  The camera is probably just doing exactly what you are telling it to do.  You just may not know what you are telling it to do.

    First, check to see that you aren't dialing in any Exposure Compensation.  Hit Func and see if the +/- (Exp.) is set to anything but 0.  If it is, for now move it to 0.

    Also... you may not be aware that when you are focusing, you're camera is taking a meter reading to see what the exposure could be.  If you the area it is metering is dark but the overall scene is bright, it may try to bring the dark up, hence over exposing the rest of the scene.
