What is the problem with my sound on Sony Vegas 8.0? And A good video capturing program?!?

I just got my new PV-GS320 Video Camera last night and I don't really know how to use I know some of the basics.. :\

Anyways I opened up sony vegas and i captured the video but the video plays (.AVI) but the sound does not work! What is the problem and when I use Windows Movie Maker everything is fine but the quailty sucks! So Can someone help me with this issue?!

  1. try opening it in hdv capture because the new vegas is like completely hd i heard but yeah i not sure i still have 7 and dont plan on upgrading due to all the problems ive heard
