Download an anti-virus program. I suggest Avast. It is free, and fairly comprehensive, and easy to use. Just google it. Keep it running all the time, and do a scan once a week.

I also suggest you use Spybot S&D, and Ad-Aware. They are all free, and will keep your computer free from most infections.

Constantly run virus scans. Don't go onto obvious scam websites, or p**n websites. Put a firewall up, your comp should usually come with one or if you have comcast I believe you get Mcafee. Overall just don't go onto any bad(lack of a more intelligent word) websites, and run virus scans daily.
