  1. hi paul

f-disk is a dos command used in start up disk to create, delete and modify partitions in windows,it can also be used to make partitions active aswell

its mainly used with the fat32 file system and used for the windows 95,98 and millenium operating systems

to use fdisk you first need to download and create the windows start up disk, any will do unless you plan to install any of the above versions of windows

to start go to http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm and for this exersize we will download the windows 98se start up disk, click on the o.e.m version and then click the mirror link

once downloaded place a formatted floppy disk in your floppy drive and then execute the "win98" start up disk download

the program will now create the start up disk and this will take around 90 seconds

after this has finished remove the floppy diskette and restart your p.c

upon restart press delete to enter the computers setup(bios) and then go to "advanced bios features",then change the boot order so your floppy drive is the first boot device, then make "ide1" the second boot device and cd-rom the third boot device

then go back to the main bios screen and then press "save and exit set-up" to save any changes you have made to the cmos...your p.c will now restart..do not power off while these changes are saved

when the p.c restarts the pc will now boot from the floppy disk and you will be asked which way you would like to use the start up disk...select "with cd-rom support" and then click enter

once the start up disk has finished loading you will be greeted with a dos prompt like this     a:/

now type in  fdisk(all one word) and then press enter, then when prompted allow for large disk support

any other prompts just click yes(y) and then you will see the fdisk main screen

now just use the number keys to select the required action, and after any partition has been created you need to restart the p.c and format the edited drive

               any problems let me know

                           good luck paul  !

  2. Fdisk is a program to partition drives.

The Linux version has many more options than the Windows version.

    For windows, you need

A primary DOS active partition and you can have extended partitions that you can put logical drives in.
