I've have tried to find a complete list of the rules, but I'm still not sure....

Odds are they will need a certificate of employment,

flight and hotel bookings, passport etc etc....

But the question I'm wondering about is, do they need to be part of a pre-booked tour or can they go as independent travellers with non-Chinese friends.

Also are they likely to have any problems with getting such a visa.

  1. It's very complicated, you need a certification of 50 thousand yuan deposit from bank, these money will be frozen for 3 months. if you have work, you need the chart of the company, the list of your salary, couples of photos, for retires, you don't need it, your certification of your marital status, ID and it's copy, Hukou and it's copy, passport...etc....urh.....

It not  necessarily to be pre-booked, it all depends on who you are---if you're middle aged men, married, have high pay job, high social status, have been to many countries before especially Europe and North America, you don't need to pre book, but for someone like me---poor, young , not many job experienced , without any visa record single woman..it's highly unlikely, I can only book my trip from the travel agency and let them handle.

When I was in Japan as a exchange student back in 97, we didn't need visa, I was just a Junior school student though, that 1 month was my best memory.

  2. its very complicated... citizenz need to pay a large sum of money to make sure they wont illegally stay in japan forever and then  they recieve the money after they return. im not that sure about the rest but maybe you can call the counsulets in china or japan to make sure...
