I deposited a balance transfer check (from my bank of america platinum mastercard) into my bank of america checking account. I wanted to know, what is the process that check will go through? I deposited the check on wed night, and funds were available on friday. I heard that this happens (checks clear faster) because of a new law (check21 or something like that).

And then, on Friday I realized that I couldn't find my credit card (the card that I deposited the balance transfer check for) so I called BofA and told them i needed a new card. So, they reassigned me a new credit card number and sent out a new card for me. But now I'm worried about my balance transfer check. Although funds have already been available, I'm afraid that because my credit card number has changed, the check that I deposited may get returned. Is that likely to happen?

What is the process for bank of america verifying that check?

  1. There is no chance of that happen, when you call and say you lost your card, they'll issue a new one, and all the info, like balances, transactions etc, will be transfer to the new one.In the case of the check, unless you tell them you lost it, the money will be at your  checking account until you use it.

The process for the bank to verify the check includes the number and your signature.

  2. A credit card check for a BOA credit card deposited in a BOA bank account got processed real fast.  It will show up on your next credit card statement.
