I would love to adopt a child, would like a baby but am not against adopting an older child. I cannot have children and I am curious as to how hard it is to adopt. What is the process and the cost of something like that?

  1. its a long long process u have to take classes home inspections meetings and the whole yard

  2. The cost and the process differ depending on if you want a domestic or international adoption. I have attached a link that describes the legal aspects of adoption, but that whole web page can help you. Good luck. In a few years, I will starting the process too.

  3. You may want to read the book Adoption for Dummies which describes the different types of adoptions and processes. You will need to choose international or domestic, then agency, independent, or foster care etc. The exact process varies depending on these choices.

One common factor for all types of adoptions is a homestudy, however a homestudy for domestic via agency may not meet the requirements of a homestudy for a state or foster care adoption (they are slightly different in my state). Costs will also vary widely depending on your choices...from free to 10's of thousands of dollars.

    Good luck!

  4. Call an adoption agency and ask about the process.

  5. call you local health and human services and they will get you started in PRIDE classes and then your set!  They do have small children (at least the state that I live in) for adoption...but babies are few and far between with the type we did.  Oh, and it's free.
