  1. if you have already had x-rays, impressions and teeth extracted that need to be extracted then the rest is just actually getting the braces on. the process is not painful at all, all the ortho will do is glue each bracket on one by one, then attach the wires, BAM, you are done!

no pain what so ever! Take some tylenol/advil before going being that your mouth will be open for about an hour to put all the brackets on. Your teeth will be sore for the next couple days and eating will be a challenge, but you will get used to eat it and you will eat normal again.

  2. ALRIGHTY. let's see.

    1. You have a few meetings with different orthodontists and decide which one you like the best, which one's process you like the best, which cost works out, etc. Basically whichever one appeals the most to you, you choose as your orthodontist.

    2. You go to our orthodontist and they take several molds and pictures of your teeth just to plan what process they will need to do. This part doesn't hurt at all besides the icky material they stick in your mouth for the mold.

    3. You make an appointment to get your braces on. On that day, your orthodontist and his/her orthodontic assistant begin putting on your braces. They first put on your brackets, which are the little squares on your teeth (you get to choose the color of the bands surrounding these. I'm a girl, and I normally choose teal or light green, which I find to look the best). They then put the wire through the brackets, which can be a little painful at first, just because it is adjusting your teeth.

    4. They then normally have you watch an instructional video or give you advice and knowledge on daily care of your braces. They gave me a little bag of things I may need, including wax, floss, a soft-bristle toothbrush, coupons, brochures, etc.

    5. The next few days should hurt very bad, but do not get scared. For me, the pain lasted about 1 week, and then within the next week you should be able to eat things as normal that you couldn't for the past couple of weeks, such as potato chips or carrots.

    6. You will return to your orthodontist most likely once a month to get your braces tightened. All they do is some fancy trick with your brackets to make them closer together or in line. Your teeth should hurt for only a few days after getting your braces tightened, and not as bad as when you first got them.

    7. After however long the braces are required, they will be taken off by the orthodontist and, Viola! straight teeth.

    EXTRA NOTES:

-You may or may not need to use rubber bands, it all depends on if your jaw-bite is off center

-I use a fluoride rinse every night, just to clean my teeth and make sure I don't get permanent stains on my teeth after my braces are off. Make sure you don't eat or drink for 30 minutes after you do the fluoride rinse, or else the whole rinse was pointless. Also, the rinse is used as an alternate for flossing, which H-A-R-D.

-Canker sores are much more common with braces. I use something called "Kank-A" when I feel like I'm going to get a canker sore, or if I even get a cut in my mouth from braces. It can be used on already formed canker sores as well.

Good luck and I hope I helped!!!

  3. ok. well i have had my braces for 1 year now. and what they first do is put in spacers (if you need them) for about a week. they are little rubber things that they wedge between you teeth so it makes room for the brackets. :] they dont hurt.

then the smoothe your teeth........(when they are smoothing your teeth make sure not to move your tongue around)

then they take them out and fit your teeth with this big braket thing that the put on they farthest back teeth on all four sides of your mouth.

    it doesn't hurt at all.

then they give you this BIG this to put on your mouth so that way your tongue doesn't get in the way of anything. then the put glue on your teeth and put on the brackets then the wires/springs and then the colors.

and you might have to wear rubberbands too. :]

but just remember to brush your teeth after every meal and always put your rubberbands in and to wear them at night too.

but no in the process it does not hurt 1 bit. :]

afterwords your mouth may be a little sore

the only thing that hurts are when you have to go for TIGHTNINGS.

but good luck and i am sure you will be just fine and dandy/ :]
