  1. For the childs sake. Don't do private adoption. I was adopted by that process, and I am not allowed ANY information about my birth family. I am getting married soon and I will take to my grave knowing that I was someones child but I never got to find out.

  2. Talk to a minister, a doctor or a lawyer and ask if they know of a couple who wants to adopt a baby.

You can put certain criteria on it..send you photos, have an open adoption etc.

We adopted our second child through a minister. We met the biological mother, paid her rent for several months and beat her to the hospital when she went into labor!

Contacted a lawyer, he did all of the paper work (make sure he has experience in adoptions) and helped get the papers filled out for the hospital and we took him home when he was 12 hours old.

Then we had a visit with a social worker (can't get out of that and you DON'T want them to) and we went before the judge (this takes at least 6 months) and he approved the adoption and the baby was ours legally from that day on.

This was 22 years ago. Best of luck.

  3. private adoption is keept between birth parent and adoptive parent. An attorny is used to do the legail paper work and court apperances,no social workers exsept the one for the home study,no agencys and everythig is agreed apon between the two sets of parents as to what each outher is wanting in the adoption regarding degree of openess ect.

  4. Technically, private adoption simply means non-governmental and includes agency adoptions. Do you mean an independent adoption with no agency or directed adoption where you and the relinquishing parents already know each other\?

Usually you find an adoption situation on your own and then have attorneys process all the necessary legal paperwork. Some states bar such adoptions and require agency involvement and some bar advertising or soliciting so your best bet is to find an attorney ASAP to learn your laws and options.

Private adoption doesn't change anything about openness, etc. We did an independent directed adoption and maintain contact with his family of origin including visits.

  5. Theres a very good website... take a look.
