What is the process of trying to start a non profit foundation??

Question

trying to raise money for some needy people who don't really have much and looking to find out some ways to do that.

i would appreciate any ideas

Fund raising does not take any offical paperwork just the hard work and marketing. Best to tell the story of what the money is for, and how it will benefit the people, it also helps to have target lists of people that have, and are willing to donate. To have a non-profit designation of '501(c)' then you need to file such charters with the state, for the additional tax benefits associated with the funding and operations costs.

You need to establish the not-for-profit by filing its articles of incorporation with your state, and then secure your federal tax exemption with the IRS.
