What is the process that dentists go through to get rid of dental decay in the incisor teeth?

I've been to the dentist and I have decay in my two lateral incisor teeth. I just want to know what the process is of him getting rid of it. He said its pretty severe and I will need a root canal if not treated soon.

  1. They drill the tooth and clean out all the rotten areas and then remove the nerve of the tooth with long files, obviously after you get a local anesthesia injection to numb the area. Then the tooth is filled
