depends on what state you live in, In texas as well as most states you are allowed to get a permit when you turn fifteen, to do that sign up for a drivers ed course, they even offer some online at http://www.driversed.com/ but i recommend going to a local driving school. Then once you go through the first four or five days of class you go to the dps office and take a written test (15 questions or so) that ask you about basic stuff that you learned in class (right of way) etc. its pretty easy, once you pass that you receive your permit.

To get your license you have to have had your permit for at least six months and be 16, you go to the dps office and take a test with a dps officer in the car, as well as a written test. if you pass then you get your license.
